Music Library of the University of Halle
.
Use: The library provides colleagues in the Handel House with literature. But it is also
open to all other interested parties. As it is a reference library the stock cannot normally be
borrowed. Work places and copying machines are available. Please feel free to contact us if you
have questions on Handel and music history in Halle.
Subjects covered in the collection
Handel research, Halle music history (S. Scheidt, F. W. Zachow, W. F. Bach, J. F. Reichardt,
D. G. Türk, C. Loewe, R. Franz and others), music instruments.
Stock:
Alongside these books and journals (presently 21 regular journals) the library collects music
and musical sound carriers (recording equipment is available). In -addition there is a collection
of archive materials such as manuscripts from composers, programmes from performances, press
reviews, and pictures. Handel's original hand written documents are available on microfilm. The
original Halle Handel Edition of the complete works of Handel is here alongside the editions of
Arnold (in part) and Chrysander. The stock is completed by a collection of old printed editions
(books and manuscripts) from the 16th – 19th centuries
